• 1. Tell us about your gear

Send us a few photos, the brand and model, and anything you know about its age and condition.

  • 2. We review it

We'll look at the item, its condition, current resale market, and whether it's a good fit for Wood Duck. If it is, we'll give you an estimated initial selling price.

  • 3. We inspect and confirm

We'll inspect the gear in person and confirm its condition, initial listing price, payout rate, and consignment terms before you leave it with us.

  • 4. We handle the sale

We photograph, list, market, and sell your gear, handle customer questions and transactions, and arrange your payout once the sale is completed and payment has cleared, in accordance with your consignment agreement.

What You Earn

The more valuable the gear, the larger the share you keep.

  • $50 to $149.99

You keep 50% of the final selling price.

  • $150 to $299.99

You keep 60% of the final selling price

  • $300+

You keep 65% of the final selling price

Your payout rate is set when we accept your gear, based on its initial Wood Duck listing price. If we later reduce the price through our normal markdown schedule, your payout percentage stays the same.

Example: A tent accepted at a $500 initial listing price qualifies for our 65% payout rate. If it sells for $450 after a markdown, you receive $292.50.

We Price Gear to Sell

We set the initial selling price based on the item's condition, age, current retail price, comparable used gear, demand, and what we believe it can realistically sell for.

We'll give you our recommended initial price before accepting the item so you can decide whether consignment makes sense for you.

Once accepted, the item follows our standard markdown schedule:

  • Days 1–30: Original price
  • Days 31–60: Up to 10% off
  • Days 61–75: Up to 20% off
  • Days 76–90: Up to 30% off

If the item hasn't sold near the end of the 90-day consignment period, we'll have a conversation with you to determine whether it makes sense to extend the listing, adjust the price further, or return the gear to you.

Prefer Cash Now?

For select gear, Wood Duck may offer an immediate outright purchase instead of, or alongside, consignment.

An outright offer will generally be lower than what you could receive through consignment because Wood Duck takes on the cost and risk of owning and reselling the item.

If both options are available, we'll explain them and let you choose.

  • Packs & Bags

  • Sleeping Gear

Sleeping bags, quilts, sleeping pads, and other quality sleep-system components.

  • Camp Kitchen

Stoves, cookware, and practical camp-kitchen equipment.

  • Paddling & Portage

  • Outdoor Apparel

Fleeces, insulation, rainwear, technical layers, hiking clothing, and other quality outdoor apparel.

Don’t see your gear listed?

This isn't an exhaustive list. If it's well made, functional, and still has plenty of life left, we'd still like to hear about it.

We generally consign individual items that we expect to list for about $50 or more. Lower-value gear may still make sense as part of a group of items or for an outright purchase.

Seller FAQ

Who decides the selling price?

Wood Duck researches and sets the recommended selling price based on the item's condition, age, current retail price, comparable used gear, demand, and the current resale market.

We'll tell you the proposed initial listing price before the item is accepted. If the price doesn't work for you, there's no obligation to consign it.

How long do you keep my gear?

Our standard consignment period is 90 days.

Items may be reduced according to our standard markdown schedule during that period. If an item remains unsold near the end of the term, we'll determine whether it makes sense to extend the listing, adjust the price further, or return it.

When do I get paid?

Your payout becomes available once your item has sold and the transaction has been completed and payment cleared, subject to the terms of your consignment agreement. Payouts are made by e-transfer.

Are consignment sales final?

Yes. All consignment merchandise is final sale for change of mind, fit, sizing, or personal preference.

If a transaction must be cancelled, refunded, or otherwise reversed due to an undisclosed defect, material misrepresentation, or another legally required remedy, Wood Duck will address the matter in accordance with applicable law and the consignment agreement.

Who owns my gear while its on consignment?

You remain the owner of your gear while it is on consignment with Wood Duck. Ownership transfers only when the item is sold to a customer.

Can Wood Duck just buy my gear instead?

Sometimes.

For select items, we may make an outright purchase offer. The offer will normally be lower than your potential consignment payout because Wood Duck takes on the cost and risk of owning and reselling the item.

Does submitting gear mean you have to accept it?

No. Submitting an item lets us determine whether it may be a good fit for Wood Duck.

Any preliminary pricing is based on the information and photos you provide. Final acceptance and pricing are subject to inspecting the gear in person.

Ready to Move Some Gear Along?

Send us a few photos and some basic information. We'll take a look at the gear, research the market, and let you know whether it could be a good fit for Wood Duck.

There's no commitment until we've inspected the item and confirmed the consignment details with you.
